In the year 2020, SARS Corona Virus 2 was responsible for the outbreak of COVID-19, the respiratory illness which caused a worldwide pandemic claiming millions of lives in its wake. In Sri Lanka, circumstances manifested into a series of events, most callous and most sinister. For as the virus laid waste to countless lives, the island's Muslim community were faced with a horrifying reality which struck at the very core of their beliefs. Persecuted and abandoned, with nowhere left to turn, the Sri Lankan Muslim community suffered in silence until the right to burial was eventually granted albeit exclusively in a remote village situated along the eastern coast of the island.
